Youth Volunteer Council June Newsletter

There are many ways youth can give back to the community. This page contains a list of current volunteer opportunities geared towards youth and youth-centered organizations. If you do not find an opportunity that fits your need, please call the volunteer center at 865-5030 and we will be glad to help!

Youth Volunteer Council
Youth Volunteer Council (YVC) is an excellent way to make a difference in your community! YVC allows youth to earn service hours for organizations such as National Honor Society and Key Club, and looks great on resumes, college applications and scholarships.

The Youth Volunteer Council's motto is: Helping Out in the Lawrence Area. Teens serve on the council to develop their interest in volunteerism, learn about various local agencies, match teens with service opportunities and create additional volunteer opportunities for other youth. During the school year, we offer 1-2 service opportunities a month, for a total for about 5 hours each month with the majority of our projects taking place on Saturdays.

For more information, please contact the volunteer center at 865-5030 or by email, youth@rhvc.org.

To apply for membership in the Youth Volunteer Council, please complete the YVC Application.

KVC
We will be making back-to-school packs for Douglas County children in foster care. You can look forward to filling individual backpacks with school supplies for grades K-2nd, 3-6, and 7-12.  As if that isn’t reason enough to attend, snacks and drinks will be provided for YVC volunteers.

Wednesday, July 23rd, 11:00am-1:00pm
905 Rhode Island
Social Service League
We will help sort everything from clothes to toasters at Lawrence’s oldest human service agency and thrift store. Wear something comfortable because the store is not air conditioned and it will likely be hot. Because of the small location, only five YVC members can volunteer at one time. Please let either Rachael or Hannah know in advance if you plan to come.

Contact Hannah at youth@rhvc.org or 785-865-5030 for more information.
