It's a "Summer of Service" for Douglas County youth!
15 area youth are serving up to 100 hours each this summer as part of the Youth Volunteer Corps "Summer of Service" program.
Ten middle-school age youth will have the opportunity to earn a $500 education award to be used for post-secondary education. Older members of the Youth Volunteer Corps are serving as mentors and group leaders. Projects are all over Douglas County and are all enviornmentally focused. They include: Adopt a Park through the City of Lawrence (at 3 parks), work on the trails at Clinton Lake and Hidden Valley, servicing can houses for Cans for the Community, work at the Baker Wetlands, and lots of gardening. Below a group of youth worked with some wonderful adult volunteers to construct and paint a fence at the Community Garden at 9th and Mississippi.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact the Roger Hill Volunteer Center today!
We have MANY options available!
